JUST FOR KIDS

CHILDREN & WORSHIP

 

Children are a welcome and encouraged part of our Sunday mornings!  We are happy to have them attend worship services and support and encourage their participation from the earliest ages.  Children’s bulletins, and toys are available in the lobby to keep little ones engaged.  Towards the beginning of the service, all children are invited to come forward for a special Children’s Message delivered for all ages to enjoy.

The first Sunday of every month (September – May), kids ages 3 years through 5th grade, are invited to YES! (Youth Education Sunday) where they hear the Gospel lesson, watch a video, create a craft or play a game. Children meet in the Parish Hall at 9:30am – 10:30am (or end of sanctuary worship service).

 

 

NURSERY (ages 0 – 5 years)

 

For the convenience of parents with young children (infant to 5 years), we provide free childcare during the worship service each Sunday.  Our wonderful nursery attendant, Celestina, takes loving care of your children so that you may enjoy a peaceful worship experience. The nursery is located in the Parish Hall (in the building adjacent to the sanctuary building) in a large, safe, toy-filled room with baby toys, books, puzzles and space for crawlers. Please feel free to bring your child to the Nursery prior to the start of worship or anytime during the service.

 

YES! (Youth Education Sundays – 1st Sunday each month, September – May) Ages 3 yrs – 5th grade

 

Our goal is to teach children the stories of God’s goodness, so they learn about God’s love for them, and their world. We do this through:

A Bible story curriculum – to provide a fun and engaging way for the children to learn God’s story and love.

Prayer – to model and teach children how to pray and talk to God.

Games and crafts – that connect with the theme of the day to facilitate deeper understanding and creative exploration.

Friendship – to build great relationships that encourage children as they develop.

 

ST. NICHOLAS FESTIVAL

 

Each December as we prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birthday, we host an exciting party especially geared to families with young children.  The festivities begin with a variety of fun Christmas craft stations and games for the kids.  Then parents are invited to return as we all sing Christmas carols and enjoy a delicious pasta dinner.  The evening culminates with a visit from St. Nicholas with gifts for the children.

All kids 3 years old through 5th grade are invited to come join the fun!   Party-goers are encouraged to bring warm socks, gloves, hats and scarves that are donated to SF Night Ministry.

 

 

CONFIRMATION

This three year program is designed for youth in the 6th – 8th grades to provide a place for students to:

    • Experience the love and grace of God and develop their own, personal relationship with God.
    • Learn and experience some of the practices of our faith—prayer, meditation.
    • Learn about the Christian, Lutheran faith and to experience religion and faith that is vital in today’s world.
    • Confirmation not conformation—we strive to give your children the tools they need to confirm their faith, not so much conform to a narrow set of beliefs.

During twice-monthly classes students study: The Old & New Testaments, Martin Luther’s Small Catechism, Lutheran History & Lutheran Living. They attend other houses of worship, serve the hungry, go on retreat and discover that our holy God is unconditionally in love with each one of us.
